what do you wish to automate on your notebook?

Dear Internet,

i just wonder, if your notebook can adapt its settings according to the environment you are current in, what are things you wish to see or have? At this point we can at least get the best connection (via NetworkManager) and perhaps best display (via xrandr/xorg), but most of the time we still need to configure a little here and there. Is it necessary to have an "intelligent system" that knows what it should serve you according to your current situation? Or the system should always be passive?

And if you are going to move between places, what are the possible parameters a system should detect in order to make such adaptation? Is it really because of time and location change? or the system should detect your current activity (like chatting? or using open office? or just listening to music?)?

I would appreciate it if you can pass this question around, and see what others has to say about this. Do leave your comments and thoughts at the comments part. I will repost the collect comments in coming post.

thank you :)

have you checked out Unison??

Hi,

thanks for you comment.

you can check out Unison - might not be automatic at this point, but you can set it to run when you trust everything it does. Linux journal has an article on it this month - check it out here.
