yeah, yesterday i did a round of apt-get update, and got the latest Ubuntu hoary kernel security update. I of course did hope my ipw2200 problem will go away (most unlikely no, since it has nothing to do with the kernel.), but to my pleasant surprise, now the system boots up with framebuffer on. Neat ;) now i can see more when i switch to console, without me needing to change any bootup parameters.
from puff's comment, i know at least i am not the only one now. Lotso did asked me to try out the script way, and nope, it does not work that way either. So i am gonna just temporary be happy with everything that works almost perfectly[1] at this time, and try to find time to hack/play around the system to find out more solutions.
[1] i still have problem that my system locks up mysteriously every now and then.
