when we started playing games, especially those addictive ones, our parents will start to warn us from loosing ourselves. Most common words of advice would be like "aiyo, don't play else you waste too much time" or "you are just wasting your precious energy... go do something that brings money back" and etc...
they never know, that we can now also make money out of games playing... especially those online ones. For example, do you know that warcraft gold can be traded online? Yes you hear me right, you pay real money to get warcraft gold which you will then spend in the game of Word of Warcraft? the Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing (MMORPG) industry is BIG and you might not even see the potential how newer businesses are now built based on them.
for example, people are willing to trade real money to obtain virtual goods and services in their favourite online games. This usually allow them to obtain better gaming experience, and offer them faster path to achieve better status. Good players, on the other hand, are no longer people who "waste" time and money - their efforts and talents can now help them earn real bucks. I am surprised to read that it is predicted such trades are to be raised to $4 billion by 2008! Why not? the biggest MMORPG now is World of Warcraft, and it has over 9 million players worldwide... and many are willing to pay a little (which is not really little to some of us btw) just to get things done quick.
There are also companies offering such service. One of them is GameGoods, which is a premium player in this industry and one of the best companies to but world of warcraft gold with really competitive prices. It has even 24/7 customer service and extremely fast delivery speeds. It is a European based company, and is trying to provide a trustable service among competitors (especially the Chinese companies which sometimes fail to deliver) to the gamer communities.
If you are into this, do check it out. for me, i have yet to understand the influence and trend, but i do admit that this is an innovative way to provide newer services and market.

Forget "virtual" goods, what about relationships...?!?
You've heard about people meeting, dating, and possibly marrying because of people online in WoW... now, that's a story.
And guess what. We're building something to make it even more real.
Puahaha!
