things you can do for your Eee PC....

a few things you must/can try out, for your new Asus Eee PC:

1. Install Ubuntu EEE
Instead of installing the original Ubuntu, i found Ubuntu-eee. The team hasdone a great job. What i did to get Ubuntu on my Eee PC was just: first, download iso. second, use Unetbootin to create a bootable USB with LiveC. third, install from USB on either SSD or SD card.

for those who wants to install on SD card - you can. But instead of using the proposed way (which is with a PC without harddisk), you can of course directly isntall ubuntu on the SD on the Eee PC. You must however know how to use the right techniques to recover your MBR on your SSD, and also to fix the GRUB table on your SD after the installation. Default it will just install GRUB on SSD's MBR. If you got into troubl, check out this and Super Grub Disk.

2. Do some customization, the ubuntu/debian way
i was trying to get some things done, since i want it to be as similar as my current notebook environment. Somehow a few thigns does not really work - such as sleep/suspend, hot keys, and the booting time is not really that impressive. Then i come across this work. So off i go with apt-get and it is done automatically. Of course, there are some manual tweaks i must follow

it is also possible that after your tweak updates, you can't boot into your SD card anymore (that is, ubuntu installed on SD card). Check the links i gave in point 1.

3. Remove unneeded stuffs
this is important for every system actually. For the Eee PC, i removed the following:
- language-pack-* (i only need -en and -de)
- language-pack-gnome-* (again, choose only the language you need)
(to be added as time goes)

4. Use it :)
Using it is just as natural as it should be. i noticed due to the screen size, i have my task bar with auto-hide enabled. I also use Firefox 3 with full screen mode. I also turn Compiz off, since i don't really need eye candys :). There might be things you will like to change - feel free. It is your system and it should work in a way you felt comfortable with.

5. Bluetooth GPRS/3G Connectivity *New!*
this is perhaps only for those who has a GPRS/3G package and wish to be connected everywhere they go. Follow instructions here to configure it. The software Blueman is pretty well done. thanks to the developers.
