testing OS2008 on N800

It's finally weekend, and i have decided to take an hour out, to play with the OS2008 on N800. it is already a week since an official beta was released, but i have been considering hard whether to do it or not. Guess now you get the answer already ;)

Updating N800 Kernel, the different way

today another firmware update was announced for the N800, and it will fix the sdhc problem some are facing. As usually, almost everybody complaint about the pain of reinstalling all applications, since the firmware update brings you a "fresh installed" Internet tablet. For those who are frustrated with reinstallation of many working applications, or those with boot from MMC/SD card systems, i think the firmware update will be a boring long procees, before one resume in the last state of a working tablet (mine is at least since my use/update in June/July). So it's time to look for alternatives.

One nice thing about FOSS

most of the time we see FOSS as a good thing, because of its F. Free. some insist that F is Free as in Freedom, but not beer. But many just hope that beer will be as free as FOSS :)

while looking at Maemo's growth and development, i come across a new game project announced in the mailing list. It is called DragonFear. It is a RPG game similar to 80's bard's tale... One thing that caught my eyes is the following:

recovering from crash and burn

remember the post where i mentioned i got my SD card "crashed and burnt"? Byte did point me to an entry in maemo bugzilla with similar problem, but i doubt it is identical to my case. Anyway, after long procastination (the card actually sat at my office desk for a week!) i send the card back to Amazon. I must praise Amazon for its great service - an email was replied within 24 hours, and a refund was made 2 days after i send off the card. So bye bye Sandisk Ultra II. apparently somewhere in the Internet i read about a faulty batch. I think it is just my luck, i hope.

Some daily usage of N800

time to use and play with it... :) was thinking to myself, how to actually use such a device? Now i have some suggestions for you...
