Presto Beta bootup video

Just a quick post - below is a video i have captured to show how it works under my EeePC 901. It is just a minute long, including booting up (about 10-15 seconds) and starting Firefox (about 10 sec?).

Mama mia presto!

a couple of weeks ago Xandros released the news that they are also into an "instant on" OS for netbooks. So i signed up for the beta, and a few days after the announced release date (well, i actually forgot about the sign up too :P) i got a mail to invite me to download it. It is actually available for everyone at download.com or tucows...

Operating systems expectation.

while reading the updates made by Sacha in Tapei regarding the latest ARM-based netbooks (with snapdragon chip), i suddenly start thinking the choice of OS on this platform. Since it is an arm-based system, most likely we will get linux variants running on it with perhaps customized specialized interfaces. For some prototype or first hand screenshot, take a look at the pictures taken by Sacha (German entry, but pictures and visual speak more than words :) ).

some new nice FOSS tools

this is of course not 100% new thing. I am as usually a little slow, but i am glad i keep finding new and useful things available for Linux and FOSS.

The power of CLI - selective removal of files

finally took the time to tidy up my long-deserted online photo album. But the quest now is - remove unnecessary files, and reorganize them. I realise the good old gallery 1 web album made lots of *.sized.jpg and *.thumb.jpg, so going to every directory to remove them manually will take quite some time.

so i looked around for some CLi power. and i know even though it is simple for many of you there, i don't do that often so i have to relearn this :) it is at the end rather simple. my best find was to use find (he he a pun?). it does the job pretty well:

I now have stereo bluetooth on my desktop :)

remember my attempt in getting the Sony Ericsson HBH DS 970 to work with my desktop? It was puzzling in February when i first got it, and i gave up trying since then. However since a few days i got a link from thoughtfix, and excitingly got bluetooth stereo working with the n800. yes, i can now start up a music player on the n800, and receive the sound via bluetooth on the DS 970. That is great for me, since i can basically have my handphone paired to the headset, while having the music still sent from the n800 simultaneously. neat.
