superstition or just a technique?

While read the news, i came across this funny article where Massa said he will be wearing the same underwear for the last F1 race in Brazil. He said it is his superstition way on ensuring a victory :) i find that really hilarious, since the undie after a race can be... ahem ahem :)

But come to think about it, do we not do certain things daily in the same way? we should have some kind of methods or beliefs where we can't help doing them just to hope for something good to come our way. (Some) Christians are usually very sensitive on this issue - superstition is a BIG NO-NO. Why? because it is a sign of you not trusting God, instead of relying on other channels.

I myself don't believe in superstitions, actually. But after i think about it, what we sometimes called superstitions can also be what Massa said in the interview: "It doesn’t help with the driving," Massa said. "But if it makes you calmer, if it helps your preparation, then it’s valid." The so-called superstitions are sometimes just things you do to make yourself feel more certain and sure. Perhaps some kinds of habit or tool used will make you better in your next job interview. Or try to wear a certain type of clothes for your next date to have a good and successful date. I think in this way it is not so much of not trusting the Lord. It is more like helping yourself to have a better confidence, unconciously. More important, if you conciously trust in the Lord, you might not need to do any of this anymore. But if you still want to use some techniques to improve your self-confidence, I don't see there is anything wrong if ultimately you still trust in Him, with or without the technique.

Why do we still do them then? I don't know. It's called the human-thing. We human do things we ourselves cannot explain logically. Well, perhaps that makes us more complicated and interesting than you can imagine :)
