some new nice FOSS tools

this is of course not 100% new thing. I am as usually a little slow, but i am glad i keep finding new and useful things available for Linux and FOSS.

gwibber
ever got too tired of having too many social networking account, and manual update? there are quite some ways or tools out there to allow you to have an one-click solution. The one that i will try and use now is called gwidder gwibber. It has pretty simple but direct interface. I can now put all my facebook, twitter, jaiku and flickr feeds in, so that i can view the updates as nice notifications dialogue (can be annoying too, i believe). At the same time, i can just enter my status update once, and all the microblogging sites will get it. In a long run, i should actually just ditch some of them, since who needs so many place to publish?

well, i will play with it for a while until i do another review/write up on it soon, hopefully.

Conduit
We all wished to have the perfect synchronization tool. I have been using opensync for a while, but i just give up after getting some funny duplicate entries issue. Well, even now between my phone and an egroupware server, i also have funny date problem (something to do with Nokia and UTC time problem i suspect). Another problem is the interface. But conduit looks pretty sexy and simple as a synchronization solution. I have not really tried something out yet, but i can see how this will one day become the standard synchronization tool for gnome. As time goes i will see how much i can play with it. Who knows, finally my synchronization tasks will work properly.

Zim Desktop
I believe many people use Tomboy or Knotes. I would prefer something more organized. The Knotes functions pretty similar as far as i know, when you use Kontakt as a whole package. But when i want to keep notes organized and quick, i find Zim pretty good. I can at least write things down in a wiki like style, and am able to organize them well. It is also simple and fast. I keep forgetting that i don't have to save what i have typed, so numerous CTRL-Ss were pressed even today. If you like to write down notices, try Zim and see whether it fits your needs.

do you know any other nice tools? do share.

note to self: lots more to read, lots more to explore. fun, ahem, fun.
