salad journey

excluding the vegetarians, i think most of us consume quite if not mainly, some meat daily. There are of course many tasty, tempting and mouth salivating meat dishes that one might even give up many things just to enjoy them. Food is still one of the many important thing life, and i think we often spend time in ensuring we will get nice food. And for carnivours like us, we seldom live without meat :)

since last week i thought of some funny idea: why not i go salad for lunch for some time. and there i go: now i am at my 4th lunch salad. please don't mistaken salad as in those you see as in those side dishes. it is a mix of different vegetables, potatoe, beans and perhaps tuna, chicken breast or egg. Sometimes you might like to also add a bun to it. yes, i only said salad, not non-meat meal :) To think about it, when you order a salad in McDonalds here, you usually can also get nice vegetable mix with sauce, and roast chicken breast on top of the greens.

My experience with salad is pretty good so far. The vegetables are not that tasteless (as in no taste of meat) after all. The different types of vegetable, plus sauerkraut and potatoe salad adds taste to it. You can also add some dressings such as olive oil (the italians does that lots!) or sourcream (or something like that). Strangely i don't see much thousand island here... anyway, the amount of meat i cut down is tremendous, since i have now mainly 80% vegetables. At night i will have rather normal meals, so don't worry, i am not giving up on the yummy meat. <grin>

while eating my salad just now for lunch, i suddenly think what makes meat actually "tastier". This thought is even more curiousity inviting when i have the roast chicken breast eaten in between fresh vegs. But i do remember that meat cooked without any spices or most important of all salt, tastes not anyhow spectacular anyway. It is the ingredients and spices that charm our taste buds all this while? Meat is afterall just a disguise behind all "evil" tastes?

of course i don't think that is the main difference. Try frying your veg with soya sauce and ginger, and see whether you will get your onion ginger fry meat feel? :) meat has its own texture that tastes different from other non-meat ingredients. Even when you eat those vegetarian food imitating meat you will sense the differences. But one thing is for sure: we often chooses to enjoy meat because of the dishes' strong yummy tastes.

then no wonder i am still alive and kicking even i have been eating vegs for lunch :) i think in this way, i can even go vegs all the way :) It is after all my tongue that tells me it is missing all the tastes. We are perhaps often pampered by nice tasty food, and dislike going plain and simple. Worst, we might even go over the limit and turned into meat-only-eater. While that is not really a problem when you watch carefully on your health condition, i do believe in moderation where we don't go off balance in what we choose to eat.

will i continue in eating salad? despite the higher price in uni canteen, i will :) if i can prove that i will be thinner in weeks by just eating salad, i think i will eat regularly <grin>

see how vanity can influence one's decision? ;)
