It's finally weekend, and i have decided to take an hour out, to play with the OS2008 on N800. it is already a week since an official beta was released, but i have been considering hard whether to do it or not. Guess now you get the answer already ;)
no big news now, if you subcribed to some tech news sites - the gPhone idea is no long a speculation, but soon a reality (2008!). For those geek-in-heart, the SDK should be out on 12th November 2007. It looks like that Google's approach is to provide software stacks over different platforms/phones - the middleware approach. The idea is simple - People are welcomed to provide software that further attract more users, google gets the data from users, and provide personalized advertisement and services.
when we started playing games, especially those addictive ones, our parents will start to warn us from loosing ourselves. Most common words of advice would be like "aiyo, don't play else you waste too much time" or "you are just wasting your precious energy... go do something that brings money back" and etc...
saw this in my mailbox today: a mail from Jaiku, an activity stream and presence sharing service, working on web and mobile phones, is now part of Google. For more information read here. i have tried their services since months ago, and find their software neat and nice. You will be able to update your location and other information while you are on the move. If you coupled your phone with it, you can even help the system to almost precisely note down you current coordinate.
bring a newbie, i always wanted to learn something on dbus since a year ago... but i have not really played with it much. the java dbus thing i have read a little, but then later gave up. Today i got a little time, and i started playing with it again... only difference is - i tried it with python instead. It turned out to be a nice experience.
just right before i want to go to sleep (it is way past bed time) i looked at my Liferea for some RSS feed updates... and surprisingly besides 5xmom's update, i saw ThoughtFix update his blog with this interesting news - a possible new Internet Tablet might be on its way. It seemed that he found some new stuffs submitted by Nokia to FCC and it can be likely a new tablet. This will make me feel excited again, even though it might not be a good thing. Remember what happened to Nokia 770 when N800 was released? It was almost felt like being set aside with all the improvement plans. Until now one can only "enjoy" some of the new stuffs on a hacker edition of ITOS2007. Would this happen to N800 when the new kid is in town?
ages ago i wrote about meebo before. It was around the time it just started off. Feedback was great. i can do my messenger task without my daily messengers. I use many of them... yahoo, msn, google, jabber, even now i have skype and gizmo. yeah, not really neat when you see multiple software start as soon as you login, right? that is also a reason why i use Pidgin (still Gaim on Ubuntu Feisty) as my default IM client. At least i have almost all accounts there, minus some eye-candies and features i can live without.
ever wonder how some cool guys show off their smartphone using their monitor/computer? yeah, not an emulator, but really remote-controlling their smartphone from a computer? i first saw that during my MobiLife time, when Johan showed Context Watcher in one of our meetings. So after some time, when we finally need to show something remotely from a series 60 phone, we need to find out one for ourselves too. So that is when the journey of software hunting started. Surprisingly, you don't find so many software that can do similar tasks. Usually you get like hundreds of flash software or planner like software, but not this type.
so i will now summarize the ones i have found after long long time of researching - re-searching that is :) if you are looking for similar features on a software, this is the place you will find them quickly with some feedback.
today i was on duty @ Cebit in Hannover. no, i am not gonna make long winded stories about what i see, that should come later. :) it was a tiring day, but i enjoyed it. Partly because our department did present some nice work from my current project, partly because of the parties we went to after cebit closed :)
saw a link from good old friend ddcat concerning Getting Real. It is an e-book written by the guys behind Basecamp , Ta-da List and 37Signals. The book is being offered in a pretty unique way - free if you read online, or you can pay a little for the pdf or even the paperback version. I have not started reading, but i believe there would be good advice in the book, which all of us in our fields would appreciate.
this reminds me of continue reading my Getting Things Done :) i even brought it back to Malaysia, and only manage to read a few pages. perhaps i really need to take off to read the book.. so much for self improvement :)
go ahead and read the ebook. do tell us what you think about it, and share.
