since i am kind of addicted to it, glad to write here that i have achieved 2 things today : 1. installed and tried calling landline using Gizmo project on my nokia 770. 2. cross-compiled my first app, though i wrote nothing :) it is the mst application that i can use to make screen shots on the nokia 770. nice, and trust me, it's not that difficult as we might think.
Gizmo Project
hello hello. Having Gizmo running is another "nice to have" thing we would like to have on the 770 to show off how far 770 can do. After installation, you need to login, or register a new account if you don't have one yet, to start using it. I think from the functionality it is almost the same as the desktop version. Honestly i have not used the desktop one intensively before.. just some tries and stopped. But it is pretty neat since it has nice interface and the same features what one would need to have for IM and VoIP.
for more screenshots you can see:
the dial tab
the phone book
and
the home tab.
I tried it out with a call to my landline, and tzeying was suppose to talk to me. it was a short 1 minute call but i think generally we can understand ourselves ok. Sound quality is satisfactory, some breaks on and off. Delay is about 1 second (i can hear her from the hall, while she was answering my call in the bedroom). I think if i put the microphone near my mouth as i speak, the conversation should be pretty clear. I can hear her well, that's for sure.
Screen capture
According to the wiki page on maemo.org, you can use the mst application for screen capture. To get it running you need to have scratchbox environment set up to cross compile. I have somehow started playing with it, and glad i did. All i did now was to setup the ARMEL environment, and start compiling :) in seconds i have my binary ready. Transferred it to the MMC card, then with the osso xterm i moved it to the home directory. ran it just like how it is described in the author's page, tada! i can now access my 770 via a web browser on my notebook, and the given link on the shown page will add the current screen to be captured. neat :) thanks
for those who need the binary, download it here. i hope it is ok to distribute it here for those who do not have the scratchbox environment.
