xrandr and Fn-F7 on thinkpads

trying to switch between display modes under linux had never been easy. At least with xrandr 1.2 things are much better than before - i can finally change display mode without restarting Xorg. But the "standard" FN-F7 was never a working trigger i can use. Being lazy, i never go looking for solution... until today.

troubles with planned tests

it turns out the installation of canola 2 wasn't as easy as i thought. i started today with clonning of the os to the sd card, and despite  the troubles with repository for efs2progs and wget, i  managed to things  done within an hour. perhaps i have done that many times, and i know where i can find info fast.

why is it so?

after getting the new system up, it is slowly time to get back things i usually use in my last workstation. So LAMP is definitely something i will need. But something hasn't change since long ago - the installation process.

if you need to get php5 running on your system with mysql support, you will automatically think the following is enough

$ sudo apt-get install php5-mysql

Playing with python and dbus

bring a newbie, i always wanted to learn something on dbus since a year ago... but i have not really played with it much. the java dbus thing i have read a little, but then later gave up. Today i got a little time, and i started playing with it again... only difference is - i tried it with python instead. It turned out to be a nice experience.

new Nokia tablet planned and coming out?

just right before i want to go to sleep (it is way past bed time) i looked at my Liferea for some RSS feed updates... and surprisingly besides 5xmom's update, i saw ThoughtFix update his blog with this interesting news - a possible new Internet Tablet might be on its way. It seemed that he found some new stuffs submitted by Nokia to FCC and it can be likely a new tablet. This will make me feel excited again, even though it might not be a good thing. Remember what happened to Nokia 770 when N800 was released? It was almost felt like being set aside with all the improvement plans. Until now one can only "enjoy" some of the new stuffs on a hacker edition of ITOS2007. Would this happen to N800 when the new kid is in town?

Not convinced enough to switch to/try out Linux?

Some of us out there might have at times this itch to try out something new. But we are all afraid to face troubles and sleepless nights, therefore we have not crossed the border until today. But if you have been contemplating to try out Linux and don't want to risks... here is a nice collection of articles written by Ashton Mills in APC Magazine. It is a superguide to replace Windows completely with Ubuntu Linux.

One nice thing about FOSS

most of the time we see FOSS as a good thing, because of its F. Free. some insist that F is Free as in Freedom, but not beer. But many just hope that beer will be as free as FOSS :)

while looking at Maemo's growth and development, i come across a new game project announced in the mailing list. It is called DragonFear. It is a RPG game similar to 80's bard's tale... One thing that caught my eyes is the following:

Fun with Linux

Average: 2.7 (84 votes) : Thanks for your votes!

This page will be the general collections of my Linux how-tos. Once some contents can form its own category, then i will split it :) else you should find everything here :)

i will also blog about iPhone!

yeah, before it's too late, i should also write something about the iPhone to earn some traffic to share my thoughts on this product. I will not tell things you could have read from here or here or here or here. After all, it is the most "In" mobile phone at the moment. I would bet that some might even do anything just to get themselves an iPhone. :)
