watch out for the new tablet N900

this is not so new - if you follow the Nokia Internet Tablet and Maemo recent progress, you probably already knew that a new tablet should be out before 2010. Since 2005, Nokia has already release 3 generations of Internet Tablets - 4.1" 800x480 screen, WiFi and Bluetooth enabled, Linux OS, both nokia and community supported applications and more. The last device N810 was released around early 2008 (if i remembered correctly) and since then, many have been waiting for the next update.

a small computer companion, or two?

looking the current trend, you can see most people who want need a portable Internet device will get themselves a Netbook. The reason? simple, it is not that slow after all, and it is affordable than those expensive sub-notebooks. It has mostly enough connectivity interfaces that you and i can get online in places we mostly are going to frequent. If you are the few lucky ones with good 3G plans, you might be able to even get online everywhere you are with a suitable 3G device.

Presto Beta bootup video

Just a quick post - below is a video i have captured to show how it works under my EeePC 901. It is just a minute long, including booting up (about 10-15 seconds) and starting Firefox (about 10 sec?).

Synchronization of Symbian S60 3rd Edition Phones under linux/Ubuntu?

Just a short question for those who frequently searched for similar topics and ended up here - should i make an update write up specifically on this topic, especially when i now have access to several Nseries phones (am using a N95 8GB for my experiments and measurements, plus perhaps another few more S60 3rd / 5th Edition phones on loan when i have the time)?

Operating systems expectation.

while reading the updates made by Sacha in Tapei regarding the latest ARM-based netbooks (with snapdragon chip), i suddenly start thinking the choice of OS on this platform. Since it is an arm-based system, most likely we will get linux variants running on it with perhaps customized specialized interfaces. For some prototype or first hand screenshot, take a look at the pictures taken by Sacha (German entry, but pictures and visual speak more than words :) ).

Some insights into the reason why people got involved in opensource projects

The guys at the ETH Zurich had carried out a survey last year regarding the participation in opensource projects, specifically the Maemo and Openmoko projects. I think i am the only guy from Malaysia who answered the survey :) The result was published and you can view it here. It is good to see this, because often many asked why would one spend time and resources into some thing that cannot bring back money (directly).

more useful (FOSS) tools

i last wrote about finding some FOSS tools that i find nice, but since a few weeks ago i have decided to also take on a few more to use them to help me in my daily work. I have read David Allen's Getting Things Done long ago, but i have not really put things into practice. So first step is to organize things right. Been writing down tasks on paper for a while, and that really help to give me an overview on things i must complete within the indicated deadlines. With computer we can do that long ago :) well, as i have learn it the (hard) way, it is the discipline that ensures the success.

entering the 8.10 before the 30th.

I admit it - i have no patience and i want things fast. It is 6 days from the release of Ubuntu Intrepid Ibix. So i waited until today where the RC is released, and i made an dist-upgrade. Note that you need really at least 1.6G if you want to go the "update-manager -d" way. i somehow could not squeeze out that much space, so i burnt the RC iso in to CD, and went the CD way. It is pretty simple - insert cd, and click on upgrade.
