ever felt frustrated when an unknown number appears on your phone's display? i think besides feeling frustrated, you might also just made up your mind to just reject the call. Why? there are so many frauds and cheats over phone, and you rather play safe than risking your hard earned money...
But it can be different if you can figure where the number is originated - i came across a reverse phone book site call callerbase.com. Apparently you can key in a US and Canada based numbeer in, and it will lookup for the owner's name and address of the number. Reverse phone lookup service, when used correctly will help you identify unknown numbers to avoid or trace harassing telemarketers, prank callers or otherwise annoying callers. If the number was from a friend, which you can't recall immediately, the reverse lookup will at least ring a bell so that you can call back. You won't have to worry that your search will be recorded - it is promised by callerbase that the search will be kept confidential. Just one advise - don't abuse it for some other purposes! :)
I know many incidents here where telemarketers attempt to trick consumers to end up buying things they don't really want. I heard from a colleague that it is actually against the law to just randomly call someone up and offer them services. But many are doing it, and some even risk lying to get their products through. My advise would be just politely decline their offer, since you don't want to buy what you don't know. Never believe that there is a free lunch so easily. The only problem we have here is - some of the calls have their number hidden. That is more annoying because you cannot even justify the caller's origin. well, be wise and hope you won't end up buying things you will never need.
