saw this in my mailbox today: a mail from Jaiku, an activity stream and presence sharing service, working on web and mobile phones, is now part of Google. For more information read here. i have tried their services since months ago, and find their software neat and nice. You will be able to update your location and other information while you are on the move. If you coupled your phone with it, you can even help the system to almost precisely note down you current coordinate.
there are similar services around. you can see twitter offering microblogging and is rather famous. The aggregation of other web 2.0 resources, such as rss feeds of blogs and bookmarks, are perhaps available at few other services like mugshot. The possibility to update from anywhere will make these kind of services addictive, as long as you can afford the traffic. I realize many are using them, and you will not know how interesting things can be like until you try it.
For me i am glad that Jaiku made it to Google. well done. Though i am not really a fan of such things, i do use them occasionally. Like being able to update my twitter via google talk is a nice feature - i don need extra client to do simple text update. I believe soon people can also have automatic presence update - like automatically say i am working if i am in office, and have not been chatting for more than 10 minutes, for example. Such features are theoretically possible, and it is just a matter of time until you and i can enjoy them.
my Jaiku page is at http://wahlau.jaiku.com. feel free :)
