yeah, this is of course late, but i was totally tied up with work and other stuffs last two weeks. This time i'm gonna make it up ;)
this round i will cover something i saw from Samsung and Ericsson. they are, imho, one of the most favourite choices if one chooses not to get a Nokia handphone. A few years ago perhaps you will see people's top choice is gonna be Nokia, but i believe now we have a much even competition in the handphone market.
so cut all the me-think stuffs. back to pictures and reviews ;)
what catches my attention at Samsung are two things: its HSDPA handphone, and the DVB-H enabled phones.
not to go too much into buzz words and technology explanation, HSDPA stands for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access. for more information you can visit the explanation in Wikipedia. To put in simple terms, HSDPA allows you to have a higher download data rate for WCDMA systems. This means service providers who are offering UTMS will be able to offer HSDPA too with their current UTMS infrastructure. In Cebit 2006 T-Mobile have already officially announced its offering of HSDPA services. It is gonna be attractive since you can get something like at least 400Kbps to 700Kbps. This is gonna be an alternative to DSL which is like standard broadband choice for many places.
the picture on the right above is the Samsung HSDPA phone. It is really sleek and nice. I did not really try much since it is still a phone (duh!) but the feel and the size are really nice. If you are interested perhaps you can search around for reviews and also tests when they are available in the Internet.
Talk about the DVB-H phones, DVB-H stands for Digital Video Broadcasting - Handheld. In short, you can now watch high quality movie playback on your phone. Playblack does not mean something like pay-per-view streaming... you can actually tune in, and select channels you would like to watch. Like in the pictures above, you can see i am tuned in to some channels that are made available for Cebit. If you have read my earlier report it is the samething that Nokia offered through its Nokia N92. Sweet isn't it? I think the phones' battery can last around 3 hours, which the person there claimed is enough for say a football show.
oh yes, they did say the whole introduction here in Cebit on Mobile TV is to get ready for World Cup 2006 in Germany... so perhaps those who did not manage to get tickets would still be able to watch outside of stadiums with their new phones. :)
next it is something for the sony ericsson fans: The SE booths. Trust me, the crowd there were unbelievable. I can say they are as crowded as in the Nokia area. I personally have not much experience with SE phones, but i do notice them since the introduction of the T68i... They are good phones with lots of features. If you are one of the fans, read on. I hope i will be able to show you something.
In the Sony Ericsson area, you would get to see something really neat set up as display - a sushi bar. Yes, sushi bar, with conveyer belt like the ones you usually see in Sushi King or Genki Sushi. No no, i did not get any sushi since it is covered with showcase. But the real reason behind not getting the sushis, was because there were no sushis at all! instead you get all the SE phones lined up showing themselves off.
as seen in the pictures above, the concept from Sony Ericsson was definitely cool. so if you want to have a nice look at what SE can offer, just stand there and you will see them pass you by one by one. Too bad we can see but no touch ;)
above are two common ones that most of you would have known, perhaps. the famous W series that blends Sony's Walkman brand into Sony Ericsson phones. but wait, in Cebit we also got to see the newer ones: the W810i and W900i.
W810i is the successor for W800i, i think. The W950 is not just another walkman handphone. it is designed to be a business phone too. It has UIQ3 running as OS, and has a touchscreen. now i think maybe we don't really need to save up for a P990i at all :)
so that's all folks for this round. If i find the time i will do another write-up soon, and maybe that would round up this years special mpc cebit write-up.
coming next (hopefully):
