this would be series of report what i have managed to see and capture in Hall 26 during Cebit 2006 in Hannover. so keep track of coming articles.
Cebit
If you are geek or gadget fans, you probably can skip this part. Cebit is perhaps the largest technology showcase for computing related stuffs. The name Cebit stands for "Centrum der Büro- und Informationstechnik" which means centre for office and information technology... not to mistaken as furniture exhibition though :) It was part of the Hannover Fair (Hannover Messe in German) until 1986, since its growth with all telecommunication and IT resources was getting higher and higher. Today if you want to see and experience what's gonna be hot in the next months, drop by Cebit and you will get your jaw dropped.

Hall 26 in Cebit 2006
If i am not mistaken, this is the place you should visit if you wanna check out the latest gadgets like handphones and telecommunication stuffs. All big players are in the house. I still see German Telekom occupying like 40% of the hall, showing all kinds of stuffs and services from its big company.

hall plan taken from cebit.de
since old pal Sillycat (aka DDcat) asked me to be mypdacafe.com "reporter" for cebit, i took a break from my duty today and went around hall 26 for quick shots. I can tell you, this hall is perhaps the fullest hall of all. In other halls you can at least move around freely. Here you are squeezed around with kiasu people playing around gadgets and running with 5-10 huge paper bags filled up with papers and freebies. wonder what they are going to do with those stuffs.
and before i start: yes i know there are better reviews and blogs around about Cebit and all the gadgets. i can only write what i saw, and i had only limited time since i myself are representing the Uni for our own booth. So do bear with the content and hope you are not disappointed.
My favourite (at the time being)
not being bias, but i was certainly heading for Nokia today. Not that i don't find others anymore good, but we are doing research using series 60 Nokia phones, and i did read little about exciting new phone from Nokia that would be available in market this year. They are my must sees. Also the sweet tablet... Agathe had brought hers over to my department's booth before noon, but having it tested without WiFi is not enough. So i must hunt it down. :) Another two things would be the N series and the E series... yummy :)
This is the sweet Nokia 770 tablet. While i was there, many people ask "what kind of phone is this" and the answers the staffs gave must have been repeat 1000 times "no... it is not a phone". Yes, it is just the non-phone product from Nokia, and to me a great product that opens up a new market. On this gadget runs open source software Linux, and this promises us the different possibilities to use this baby.
It is designed to serve you a handy table that can be used as web browser, music player, movie player and mail client while you are sitting on your couch sipping coffee after nice dinner. Besides standard softwares, you can download third party softwares that are being developed by the linux community. To-date i know at least Gaim is running, and there are also PIM software available now so that you can turn the N770 into a PDA like gadget too.
The video you see in the picture is the Ice Age trailer, bundled with the device. Display is beautiful, and with extra memory with a RS MMC card, i think you can even watch movies on it (read its battery life is at least 3 hours). The navigation and buttons are not conventional, but should be intuitive. I pretty think the zoom buttons are nice. if i am browsing some page and need to read them carefully/better, a click would bring me to 150% or even higher zoom. nice feature i think.
Looking at the N92 is exciting - it has nice 2MP camera, music player, symbian series 60, fm radio and most important of all, support for DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting for Handheld). this device is the first Nokia dedicated mobile television device. i manage to get one to test on my hand, and the output of the video is superb. The software running now is kind of slow and buggy, but i think at the time of release (announced 2Q of 2006) things should be improved and fixed. and please, pay attention on the phone, not the content of the movie it is showing :)
tomorrow i will find time to continue with other N series phones, and perhaps the E series. til then, have fun.
coming soon ...
