Time to (re)-start...

after a long time, it is time to make a decision...

to start and restart...

An attempt discriminates! or not?

Note to self: how to see folder size under linux?

i personally like CLI because just a few key strokes and i will get what i need. But i am bad at remembering the optiosn and commands... so this will be a note-to-self post, while hopefully it might also be helpful to you

to see folder size, the simplest way i know is to use du:

wahlau@localhost:~/ $  du

and you will get a long list of folders and the number of kilobytes of the data in the folders. so make it more "readable", just do this:

watch out for the new tablet N900

this is not so new - if you follow the Nokia Internet Tablet and Maemo recent progress, you probably already knew that a new tablet should be out before 2010. Since 2005, Nokia has already release 3 generations of Internet Tablets - 4.1" 800x480 screen, WiFi and Bluetooth enabled, Linux OS, both nokia and community supported applications and more. The last device N810 was released around early 2008 (if i remembered correctly) and since then, many have been waiting for the next update.

Using PuTools for PyS60 development

I started using pys60 since a few months ago for some simple quick prototyping on S60 smartphones. I realise the development can be tedious, when you have to type your codes on the desktop, then copy it via USB to the phone then run it. Therefore i searched a little and found the tool PUTools.

To get it running on an ubuntu system isn't really that difficult - the standard installation needs the package python-serial and you are ready to go. so do this before you download and unpack the software

Talk about interesting services on web

got a call yesterday that i could not answer on time, and guessed it has to be from the service provider 1und1 (1&1) in Germany. I somehow wanted to confirm this and tried to google for it - guess what, i came accross this website: who calls me.

a small computer companion, or two?

looking the current trend, you can see most people who want need a portable Internet device will get themselves a Netbook. The reason? simple, it is not that slow after all, and it is affordable than those expensive sub-notebooks. It has mostly enough connectivity interfaces that you and i can get online in places we mostly are going to frequent. If you are the few lucky ones with good 3G plans, you might be able to even get online everywhere you are with a suitable 3G device.

Presto Beta bootup video

Just a quick post - below is a video i have captured to show how it works under my EeePC 901. It is just a minute long, including booting up (about 10-15 seconds) and starting Firefox (about 10 sec?).

Mama mia presto!

a couple of weeks ago Xandros released the news that they are also into an "instant on" OS for netbooks. So i signed up for the beta, and a few days after the announced release date (well, i actually forgot about the sign up too :P) i got a mail to invite me to download it. It is actually available for everyone at download.com or tucows...
